Overview
Two short vertical animations built around a Centre Square coin. In one, coins tumble into frame and settle into a tight cluster. In the other, a steady stream of coins leaves one pillar and lands in the next.
The challenge
A coin is a simple object, so the brand had to carry it. The interlocking blue and green squares needed to read on every face as the coins spin, and both pieces had to work as feed-friendly 4:5 loops.
Approach
- I modeled the coin with a polished chrome rim and set the Centre Square mark into its face in the brand blue and green, so the logo catches the light whichever way a coin turns.
- The pile shot starts with one coin and builds. Coins drop in, collide and lock into a single cluster, lit soft against a white to blue gradient.
- The flow shot is about movement from one place to another. Coins leave a dark pillar, arc overhead and drop into the slot of a second pillar, in a deep blue space that keeps the silver and the mark as the brightest things in frame.
- Both were animated and rendered in Blender and finished in After Effects. I added sound to the pile shot.
The pile
One coin, then a hundred
Sound on. Coins drop in, collide and lock into a single cluster.
The flow
From one pillar to the next
A steady stream of coins arcing overhead, built to loop.
Outcome
Two vertical 4:5 loops ready for social: the coin pile with sound, and the coin flow.
